Since Blogger doesn't formally have a forum system, we're just going to use this post as a place for generally discussion. I'll open another post for upgrades and other side conversations. But feel free to post questions and answers here about the Voy! You can also leave comments on the other pages, like the manual one and the parts one.

Here's a handy diagram for referencing parts:

the battery shown looks like it has connections on top mine has 3 prong plug.also does anyone know about spare battery under seat.is this the same as the battery under floor??
ReplyDeleteThe two batteries are different shapes only, they both contain the same 3X12V configuration inside. The under seat battery is very rare, I have not seen one for sale in a long time. You could always make your own. The second ignition ON will use the battery under the seat.
ReplyDeletewhere can i get a controler
ReplyDeletehi mate did you get a controller as i need one aswell
DeleteWere you able to get a control module. I need one also and a wiring schematic.
Deletefor those needing a wireing diagram. i went thru the issue of needing one as well . i used the x-treme 360 scooters wiring diagram . it is pretty much the exact basic scooter/ebike wiring and can be found by searching google for this scooter. as for the controller i used a 350 watt 36 volt brushed motor controller. bought it on ebay for 26 $ and it worked perfect .be prepared to hace to adapt the connectors . the connectors can vary.
DeleteThey are very rare. Mefast is out of stock. You want a 180 watt brushed dc controller though.
ReplyDeletecan i use a uiniversal controler for a 180 watt motor.
ReplyDeletewhat is the going price for the voy
ReplyDeleteWhat is the purpose of the pedals
ReplyDeleteThe pedals are required in some states to qualify as an electric bicycle.
ReplyDeleteThey are also really useful for small hills and for accelerating from a dead stop.
My breaks work but when i use them they make a loud. Screstching sound what do i need to do and is it hstd or can i do it myself and also was wanting to know what a fair price would be for my voy if i had to sale it has a small chip up where the speedometer is other than that in good condition with new batteries hits a little over 15 mph thanks for advice
ReplyDeleteDo petals work together with the battery i ask cause when i ride and sm using battery the petals turn so easily that i cant tell if they ate helping or not
ReplyDeleteI lost my keys how do i get to ignitio to replace it
ReplyDeleteOnly place that can make copies of the key are locksmiths that can copy car keys.
ReplyDeleteSince you lost your keys, I would go to an auto mechanic and see if they can replace the ignition since I doubt they can make a new key to match.
If you are good with electricity, you can also just open that area... the ignition is just a switch after all.
I just bought a used Phantom IV and I'm having a few problems. The brake handles are both very stiff, making it hard to brake without pulling really hard. Even when I adjust the brakes so they're loose, it's still hard to pull the handles.
ReplyDeleteThe other thing is that the steering column is kinda weird. The right turning radius is limited, but the left is so loose that when I park the bike, the steering column just flops so far to the left that the front wheel is perpendicular to the long axis of the bike.
Otherwise, cool bike!
Thanks for any help.
Oops! Forgot something. The manual says the red LED on the charger should be blinking when it's charging the battery, but mine doesn't blink.
ReplyDeleteBrake handles- Take your Phantom into a bicycle shop and have them take a look. The front ones are standard bicycle brakes, the rear one is a band brake which you might need to order a replacement.
ReplyDeleteSteering column - You might need to do a complete take apart, I have seen some Voys where the owner somehow rotated the steering column all the way around. That could be also why your brakes are so hard to use- the cable is winding around too many times.
I can't comment on the LED on the charger- I know some models came with different chargers. The company just outsourced the charger, so you might just have a different one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestions!
ReplyDeleteI got a phantom IV that someone messed up the wireing. I would like to fix it but I need to have a wiring diagram. Can anyone tell me where to get one. Or it is up for sell for $200.00. let me know.
ReplyDeleteGood luck. If you find a wiring diagram please let me know. I need one also. I also need a control module. I am having a very difficult time finding either of these items. Thanks.
DeleteHi, I have one of these for sale, it was purchased from Target, has all the original stuff and is in great condition. I am willing to negotiate on price. Live in Saint Louis Missouri. I have the manuals, the lock, all the keys, etc. Got it for my wife to have fun in the neighborhood but she has hardly ever used it. The manual still has the old Electrausa.com stuff on it, but they have been out of business for a while. Anyone with serious inquiries can contact me at go20hawkeye.com Local pickup great, but if it needs to be shipped can likely do that too.
ReplyDeletesorry the above contact should be go20hawkeye@yahoo.com, gotta a little fast in the typing...will give a good deal, and happy to provide pics and all that good stuff.
ReplyDeleteThanks all for the interest, I have been able to sell the scooter, now to check out one with a little more zip.
ReplyDeleteI found one that is used, but like new for $300. Is that a good deal? It includes 2 keys, complete instrution manual, 3 extra storage compartments, removable pedals, Battery Charger, Bottom Storage under footmat for battery.
ReplyDeleteSounds good, but are the batteries any good still? The Voy uses Sealed Lead Acid batteries which need to be charged every few months, or else they die.
ReplyDeleteA set of three new SLA batteries will cost you about $100. Factor that into your purchasing price! So I'd offer $200-$250 if with dead batteries.
Btw, if you live near hills, the Voy is not good at all on them. If you live in a flat land, then go for it!
I love my electric voy! I by passed the controller so that it goes around 23 mph and goes up hills with ease. It hasnt used any extra battery either. I tried to post how to do it in the mod section hope it goes threw. If not email me at jhunt772008@yahoo.com. Or if you have any other questions about it let me know. I love these things i drive mine on the daily. Im putting back up batteries under the seat tomorrow. I bought some 12 volt 15 amp batteries four of them for 60 bucks locally. So cant wait to see how far it goes on a charge. Trying to figure out how im going to bypass it to go fast with the back up batteries too. probably going to put a bigger motor in it very soon.
ReplyDeleteHello my names paul from waterfor,me I just purchased a used voy scooter and im clueless as to where to buy parts or even upgrad motor etc help! Here's my email address for you paulflanders31@gmail.com thankyou
DeleteUpdate on the back up batteries. The batteries i bought were 2 12 volt 12 ah and 2 12 volt 15 ah for 60 dollars and they are new! They even came in a bag so i wired it up and used my old connector i had replaced. I used a regular fuse the connectors fit right onto it. It works amazing I drive it all over the place now. I drive it to work ten miles and it stays right on 24 i made it to work which is around 10 miles in less then a half hour! The batteries fit perfect under the seat in the bags and if i go a short distance i just unplug them and pull them out. Which is extremely easy. Now I am looking to go with a little larger motor. I found another electric voy in the area i might pick up too. Was thinking of hooking a motor up in the front and back. If anyone wants to talk about there voy or has any questions just email me. jhunt772008@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteHey everyone! Glad i found this site i have a mint condition red voy. It also has the wiring and two "on" loctaions on the key switch for the extra under seat batteries. Just put in a new set of 12amp batteries. Would like to hear how to get more speed or if someone would like to buy it? Don@sbsassoc.com
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI am having problems with my red VOY. It won't move. I have good battery life. All switches and gauges work. The motor is working properly. I tested it with a 12 volt DC battery. I believe it is either the throttle or the volt controller. I was wondering if I could bypass the controller? I saw where you did and was wondering how you accomplished it?
Thanks for the response.
Don
Trying to help a friend with a Voy 88911. I have same trouble as Don. I am able to get the rear wheel to move only by feeding voltage directly into the motor. Found a shorted DC output device in the controller and replaced it, but no joy.
ReplyDeleteIt is getting frustrating trying to find the problem without a schematic. Does anyone know how to obtain a schematic?
I just bought a Voy and everything works except for the signal lights. A couple of the bulbs were out in front so I replaced them and they all stoped working. I took out the new bulbs and still working. I have looked all over for a fuse but cant find anything. All the rest of the lights work except the signals. Any ideas? Thanx
ReplyDeleteI figured out my flasher problem it was the flasher relay ive never seen one fail open. Anyone know where I can get a 2 prong flasher relay for a 36 volt scooter? kentever@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteGood to hear, maybe try getting a flasher relay from one of these places:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/category/500/Relays/1.html
http://www.mcmaster.com/#relays/
http://www.digikey.com/
McMaster is awesome. I once ordered in the morning and they delivered in the afternoon. This works if you live in a major city where they do business.
Couldnt find what I needed from them or from electricscooterparts I did find one on ebay and got it for 99 cents but its comming from China so maybe ill get it in a couple weeks lol Thanx for the info
ReplyDeleteNew guy here, it's been a few months since anyone posted, thought I'd see if this forum is still alive. I'm glad I found some kind of resource on these things. Just picked one up a couple of days ago because the price was right - free! The previous owner said he couldn't get it to charge, hoping it's a simple fix, I'm guessing batteries. Unfortunately I don't have any money to spend on new ones right now, and I'm in the process of trying to recondition the old ones. I'll post again with an update (if anyone responds) and maybe post some pictures.
ReplyDeleteHey there, welcome!
ReplyDeleteReconditioning lead acid batteries that have been sitting around with no charge is pretty tough.
I once visited a used electronics place (it was more like an organized junk yard) that sold small alarm sized 12 V lead acid batteries. Something like that might be enough to just see if the wheels can still spin.
Did anyone ever figure out how to get those turn signal relays? I've got a salvage job put back together, replacing that switch was a pain, but the blinkers didn't last long when I tried to find a replacement lamp. The front has two on each side and I had at least one on each, so if I'd left well enough alone. . . .
ReplyDeleteSeems like a nice midget bike, but I'm 6'2" 200 pounds so it won't work out in the long run. What a great job they did for such a cheap bike, though.
I take it Electra is out of business.
Electra has indeed been long out of business. =(
ReplyDeleteI just received an electra voy I would like to replace the motor with a higher wattage, without buying the complete bicycle kit. Is this possible.
ReplyDeleteDo they even sell the ome motor for this scooter.
I don't believe the original motor can be found any more. Usually the motor and controller are made for each other. That is why buying a complete kit is most likely the solution.
ReplyDeletewhat kind of motor would you suggest. i really don't even know what would be compatible. ias looking at a couple of 350 watt kits from monsterscooterparts.com
ReplyDeletei need some pedals, can anyone help? send me an e-mail> joshuatheace@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI just want to say that the pedals do not do much unless you are going 2-3MPH. Before I got the pedals, I thought they would help me get up hills or accelerate. But since the gear is so small, the pedals are worthless unless you are going slow. Also, because of the awkward placement, you may look like a monkey while pedaling. Finally, sometimes the pedals would strike the ground when turning, so ultimately I removed the pedals.
ReplyDeleteHi All - Just picked one up for free without keys. Anyone have info on exactly how to bypass the ignition? Would like to simply replace it with a switch. Any help would be greatly appreciated! CD
ReplyDeletei live in canada and broke the battery connection on the main battery, cost $2.95 to replace but since i live in canada the shgipping is $31.50 priority post.i could almost buy a new voy for that ,any ideas where to get one in canda .dont mind paying postage ,just didnt want to buy the company
ReplyDeleteHi, could you describe or take a picture of the battery connection part you broke?
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can just resolder it directly or use a computer PC component as a replacement.
I have a red Voy. The batteries are fully charged and when I ride it it shows full charge on the gage. During the ride the powere level will fluctuate. It goes low to high & high to low with no reason. Any ideas? could it be a bad connection in the accelerator handle.
ReplyDeleteWhat was the price of the scooter brand new?
ReplyDeleteI have two Voys that I would like to sell. Contact me at rhmarw@yahoo.com if you are interested.
ReplyDeleteHelp!! My scooter won't go. Battery is charged and speedometer says it's going but no movement. Was working fine till I hirt a bump and died. Wigled some wires connected to the ignition switch and got power back but now it won't move. What to do??? Just bought it a week ago.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone. Just got my first Voy. need nearly all body parts. can anyone help.thanks, Shorty
ReplyDeleteI am selling a voy that was given to my daughter (used by family) which she is NOT interested in $150.00. Email me if anyone is interested navfamily1@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteHi;
ReplyDeleteJust bought a used Voy, and would really love to talk to someone to help trouble-shoot it - it's not holding battery charge, and am unsure what the issue may be.
Would really appreciate hearing from someone who's tinkered with this to help trouble-shoot! Thanks much in advance - my email is naeem@envoyfilms.com. I'm in Austin, if anyone else is from around here, drop me a note!
where can i get a rear wheel with the motor mine frooze up my email is sosa298ss@yahoo.com

ReplyDeleteIf there is anyone in Michigan who has a Voy and wants to sell it please contact me BERTHA at westbrook1017@netzero.net asap
ReplyDeleteCan anyone tell me where the fuse is located. I have found the one in the battery case. I made my own connection of 3 12v 75 amp betteries, so I guess something has blown.
ReplyDeleteThe one in the battery case is the fuse. Did you blow it? Did you connect the 3 batteries correctly? If you email me at fordisoman@aol.com, I will help you troubleshoot.
ReplyDeleteSorry for delay of reply.
DeleteI have bought a new controller from China.
Where is the old controller situated on the Voy.?
does anyone know where I can get a housing for my battery and a rear wheel assembly Pleas contact BERTHA at westbrook1017@netzero.net
ReplyDeleteGot a Red Voy free. Batteries were dead but replaced them. Have power but no control. When switch is turned on, it's full speed ahead. The trottle assembly looks ok but could it be the controller. Help!!! Contact at me_be08@bellsouth.net.

I have read a couple entries that may have bearing on my problem, but I don't know which way to go. I Purchased a VOY with 225 miles from a relative. She had her mechanically inclined son take it apart, carefully label it, and it was shipped to me. I put it together like a Lego and it look pretty good. Problem was, that when I turned the key on the power rear wheel would run, but the throttle had no affect, whatsoever. It would only go on/off, and only with the key. I tired every which way to connect the wires, but that was the best I could get. If I changed the wiring I got no action at all.
ReplyDeleteSomeone said he would look at it for me. He had it for about a week, then I picked it up, but only got a couple scratches and no rumble of any activity at all. Fortunately, the fellow didn't charge me, now I feel like I am further behind than before.
I thought before that it may be the throttle, but now wonder if it is the controller--or both. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer. Great battery, so that is not it.
- Emily
Emily, do you still have the problem? I have a couple of ideas. Ken
DeleteI stopped beating my head about Sept last year, but am now trying to contend with my problem again. Yes, I do have the same issues (plus now a cracked back fender when my husband backed into it while parking in the garage--which I will fix). I was told by the John at www.ElectricScooterParts.com that to decide whether it is the controller or the throttle. He said, it it runs, unplug the throttle. If it still runs it is the controller, but if it doesn't, it is the throttle. Judging from that, it may have been the throttle before, but now it may be the controller/both--since that person "helped" but apparently didn't have a clue for an electric scooter. I am feeling very stubborn about getting the scooter running, so any advise or suggestions are greatly appreciated. iama@kukura.biz
DeleteI need the wiring schematic for the bike itself. I need to know what colors do what were you hook up the controller. can anyone help? please send info to russworld5@hotmail.com.

would anyone beinterested in buying a voy? the batteries are shot but the unit is in good condition. not much usage. it is in NY
ReplyDeletehow much do you want for it?
DeleteSo, did you sell your machine? I need repairs on mine. Maybe I should blend two together.
DeleteIf anyone wants to part out their Voy or Phantom. I'm looking for another rear wheel with the motor in it. If interested in selling either one or both rims, let me know. myamaha62@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteVoy Modifications and Operation - The following info summarizes what I have found from a couple of years experience in attempting to obtain max performance from the stock Voy Scooter.
ReplyDelete180w limit - This is true as delivered but is does NOT reflect the true power capability of the Voy. The 180w comes from limiting built into the controller (probably due to legal/liability issues). Most of this limiting can be eliminated by disconnecting the connector containing 1 blue wire and 1 black wire close to the controller. This will give the VOY more speed and power (much greater than 180w) while allowing normal, full throttle control. Simple and requires NO wiring changes.
Another way to add even more power is to install the controller bypass mod discussed often on this site. This mod adds a NEGATIVE wire connected through a SWITCH to the BLACK motor wire. This mod (when switched ON) eliminates ALL controller limitations and the motor current is only limited by the motor, batteries, and wiring. Max motor current is greater than 20a as it will blow the standard 20a fuse. Must use a 25a or 30a fuse (I use 30). The main drawback to this mod is that the switch MUST be turned OFF to slow down; there is NO throttle control. I use this mod and the one above together for overall best performance. Requires MINOR wiring changes. TWO wires and a switch.
Additional power and speed can be obtained by OVERVOLTING, adding an additional Battery in series to the stock 36v. You can add a 6v battery to make a 42v system without any controller changes. In fact, I have added 10v (a 6v and a 4v battery) to my VOY. The 46v setup works fine except when just off the charger (50v). The controller shuts off at 49.2v; so after you bleed off a little charge, the 46v works OK. You can't add 12v to the system because a fully charged 48v battery reads about 53v and the controller would stay shut off. The life of the lights, etc will be shortened at 46v. I have run 42v for months without problems and 46v for a couple of weeks. But Add voltage at your OWN RISK as some VOYs may react differently. Can be done with as few as 2 wires using Batt2 key position wiring. See my table on the Hacks/Mods page for expected performance with these mods.
With more extensive wiring/switch changes you can apply 48v directly to the motor while keeping 36v to the stock controller and lights. You still have to turn the switch OFF to slow down. I haven't done this mod as I am not sure it offers enough advantage (+2v) over the 46v mod above. Of course there are many other mods available if you replace the controller and/or motor.
Speedometer operation - Several questions have been raised about the speedometer.
Most of them arise because it is not a speedometer; it is a VOLTMETER reading the voltage across the motor. It is calibrated to read about 15 mph at full throttle with a stock VOY on level, no wind, steady state conditions. At most other conditions, it will not be accurate. It is most inaccurate at higher speeds with overvoltage.
The Charge indicator shows the battery voltage. At max reading, the battery voltage is ~40v; at low charge the voltage will be ~34v. The controller completely shuts off at 31.5v to prevent battery damage. The indicator may drop fairly fast while accelerating or climbing due to battery voltage sag and wiring drops during high current demands. The indication will recover after the high current demand ends. This is normal operation.
Several posts have asked about a scooter that runs anytime the key is on and the throttle has no effect. If the speedometer shows ~17mph on the stand and shuts off with brake application, the fault is likely with the throttle or its wiring. If the speedometer shows >22mph and brake operation has no effect, the fault is most likely a shorted controller or incorrect bypass modification. These mph figures assume a fully charged, good battery and motor.
If you would like to discuss any of the above, email Ken at fordisoman@aol.com.
I just bought one of these scooters, and was thinking of using the wheels for a project, and if I do so, could I sell the other parts, like the speedo, seat, plastics, etc. It is a cool looking scooter, might just replace the bad motor controller and sell it I guess.
ReplyDeletehello everyone. i just picked up a Voy from a craigslist add. new batteries, solid frame but the plastics are pretty cracked up. the attachment points are broken out from several areas. seat is good, battery box needs a cover and the trunk box need a lid. main issue is I'm in Alaska. shipping is interesting. if you have some spare parts you can part with please let me know. I want to fix this up first for a winter project. If i end up frustrated I will be parting it out on this site. thanks
